Once upon a Wednesday morning...

the sun is up and bright in Sengkang (as always) and I can't help but put my shades on (Haha). I don a messy bun to keep my hair up and neat, grabbed a couple of sandals, paired it with a light fringe clutch (which can only accommodate my EZ link card, a lipstick, a pack of blotting paper, two phones, some cash and nothing else) and voila! As simple as that my summer wardrobe is re-lived!

What do you think about this look?

Human Nature

So this. This is what happened when one day-out-of-no-where you decided to be an all out vegetarian. I may not be a full pledge vegan (although I’m trying to be one nowadays although I'll soon fail, that I know haha!) but I tried to incorporate the custom in what I’m wearing, mine was more of a vegetarian inspired fashion thing (wait, does that even exist?).

Nature can be found in our wardrobe too you know. At least that’s what I thought when I grabbed this whole outfit from my closet. It’s a first for me (truths be told) to combine these colors together and trust me when I say, I outrageously felt like I’m taking a spin out of the color wheel. I mean, green and yellow can be very mother of earth, yeah, and vegetable-ish isn’t it? and oh, not to mention guacamole-ish too (haha)! I would have gone to a point when I felt like a walking celery but come on ladies let’s face it, it’s always fun to try something new and bright and yes, fresh. Vegetable slash fruity kind of fresh.  Wouldn’t you want to be a walking environmentalist ad through your outfit? (did it ring a bell? haha) Also, I’m quite sure you guys have seen Blumarine, Versace and Vera Wang’s Spring/Summer Collections right? Aren’t they all have one commonism? They sure did. All of them are reminiscent of not one thing...but Nature.

Deep green and Lemmon yellow are versatile and can be easily incorporated into your outfit separately. You can always like wear something yellow or green to break an outfit monotony and you can try to storm the street with them together like what I did here. The thing is you need to boost extra care in choosing the shades that you will use like for instance you can wear a bright yellow top and a moss green skirt but you can’t (in my perspective) combine a bright green top with a bright yellow trousers otherwise you’ll be someone’s pain in the eye (just saying). It’s also about choosing which textures go two-gether. If you’ll wear two striking colors that have different textures or fabric, make sure they’d still go well. What I did here was, I tried to match a velvet top with a cotton skirt that way, even if the colors are in contrast with each other the fabric isn’t. One more thing, choose the right set of accessories. Metallic ones will raise the factor and are best for earthly colors like green and lemon yellow. You can choose from plates of gold or silver. (Take note: anything that doubles the wattage is a sure show stopper so go for the gold! or the silver! Haha)

To wrap it all up, I just wanna say, it’s time that we take an action and take care of the environment in any way we can (join the green movement or any movement there is). It doesn’t have to be in a really big way such simple steps like bringing your own recyclable bag when shopping will take it up a notch. It will also be fun to show how much you love the nature in your outfit too, give a try! Yes? ;)

Hat Shots

The heat is undeniably unstoppable today (I mean both the weather and the NBA team! I'm an OKC fan by the way! Pfft! Haha) and all of a sudden it felt like it's summer in the Philippines again! (Yes, perks of living in a tropical country). In a 32°C city it's hard to imagine wearing a clothing piece that is not well-ventilated and literally cooling. Same goes with choosing an accessory, we have to make sure that what we're wearing is climate or at least weather-of-the-day appropriate from head to toe.

So being the dressing up addict that I am, I used that rule to grab a hat from my closet and tried to appear feminine as soon as possible (I scored a perfect excuse right there! Haha). I love that it's straw because it, one, served  as my hair/head's primary UV shield and two, it's instantly wearable, not only with its breathability, but with the easygoing, loungy attitude it exudes.

and since I'm talking about hats allow me to vomit (sorry for the term) some words about it, for I am talkative and I cant' help but share my thoughts with you right now (I missed blogging this much it's obvious. Haha!) I'd like to share some personal Do's and Dont's tips in wearing hats. Here it goes,

DO
*choose a hat that fits your head well. Not too small. Not too big.
*make sure that the shape of the hat suits the shape of your face.
*use hats to accentuate your whole outfit
*wear a cool hat, with a cool dress.
*try different kinds of hat, try exaggerated shapes and be experimental
*go with your instinct, if you think the hat looks good on you, wear it. Flaunt it!

DON'T
*wear a matchy-matchy hat with your outfit. Like a leather hat with a leather jacket.
*wear a baseball hat or a tucker with a girly sun dress. Just because they don't go well together. (in my opinion)
*wear those animal fur slash ears hat. It's not that fashionable.
*wear straw hats when it's raining or it's going to be a bad case of season mix!
*use a hat to save a bad outfit. Just don't. (I'm telling you, it's a major offense to do so!)

There, hope that little sharing helps! ;)

Pleasantville

Dramatically playful, detail oriented, wholesome with slight sexiness, colorful and sweet. The Fifties was fundamentally a time of conformity, you won't find anything wild or risqué on these pages. Think of it as good, clean, wholesome stuff. Instead of lingerie think night shirts, instead of mini skirts, think at the knee length skirts, instead of shorts think trousers and you'll get the idea.

That's my take on the fifties fashion (or atleast, that's how I understand it) Correct me if I'm wrong but when I think about the 50's it reminds me so much of the movie Pleasantville. Well, yeah, I know, that movie was so gone-and-done years ago. It was released way back 1998 ( when I was hmm...ten years old and just about to hit puberty! Haha). I remember myself not only putting an eye on the scenes but drooling (emphasis on the word) over what every character is wearing (specially Reese's or Jennifer's). Beautiful dresses, skirts in bloom, array of trousers. Name it, this movie has it.

and as for my fifties inspired look. This. I took inspiration from the movie and of-to-course with twists and turns, I made it more me. Showed a little sun kissed skin, styled my hair a bit with a fish tail braid for an added effect and focused more on the whole idea of the conservative 50's era. I also wore my DIY crystal ball necklace for the first time, which I think will be a big hit this season too (fashion forecast right there) and oh I just have to mention this, that trousers on me is actually a pajama from GAP and that top is actually a swimsuit (no, i'm not kidding) See! all the possibilities in dressing up are just right there, it's about for us to find out and make way to use it.

So...Have I given the movie justice or not? What can you say about this look?

Nikki

Down To Earth

           |HYPE this look on LOOKBOOK.nu here and on CHICTOPIA here|

| Denim Top from Topshop,  H&M Skirt, Bazaar Find Studded Bag, Armlets from Accessorize and Forever 21 ring, Goody Ouchless Elastic Band used as wristlet, Topshop Sandals|

I’m pretty sure no woman can live without fashionable sandals (can you?). Every woman (and gays) aims of having gorgeous, stylish sandals that they can wear for casual days or even for a formal event or night out parties(or even at work or at school). Sandals used to mean flat shoes with straps that were made for all day easy wear. But today they have evolved into one of the top fashion trends available because of its very versatile designs hence, the comfort that it brings.

Undeniably, we can agree that we really love owning any kind of sandals whether it’s flat or a high heel one (I go for flat down to earth ones, usually even if I look so small on ‘em haha!), most especially this season where we opt to sometimes or once-in-a-while give time for our happy feet to breathe and inhale fresh air (call it a close shoes day off).

I’m guilty of charge for being obsessed with this footwear now-a-days. I’ve invested on five pairs already and it had been my feet’s best friend since the beginning of Summer. Take it from me. They are very stylish, comfortable and easy to wear as it can be greatly pair with nearly any kind of outfit.

So tell me, are you a big fan of sandals too? What's your say with this whole look?

P.S
Another warm round of thank you to Marj for these set of photos! and oh it's Thursday already, hope everyone's having a beautiful week so far. Two more push til' weekend dolls!

Nikki

Spearmint

Sugar, spice and all things pastel.

When we were just little girls our loyalty to pink was unrivaled and anything with flowery detail, may it be big or small, made us feel like a princess (more like a Barbie for me!).

Our taste may have undergone an extreme evolution but there's still something compelling in coveting pastel-hued, delicate, eye-cooling pieces reminiscent of Marie Antoinette (Oh btw, do you guys know that she was wearing mules the day when she was executed? She does! and it's pastel purple in colour. Aww! her style was something she won't bargain for even at her dying time. She's a real Queen!)

With flores de' mayo (I remember myself being at one when I was three. Don't ask how I looked like! haha)  and the recent Mother's Day on calendar as inspirations, there's no perfect time than the maiden month of  May to fetch something sweet, simple and plain pretty.

What do you think about this look?

P.S

Photo's were taken by no other than the lovely blogger of All That Glitters, my sister in blogging, Marj Ramos (I know you guys see that coming hihi) What else can I say, It was one of those fun after-class outfit shoot bonding at SoFA. As usual! :)

Nikki
